2012 SILENT AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED

Each year at this time AMCHAM starts searching for fun, interesting and/or valuable prizes for our silent auction in conjunction with our annual Installation Ball, to be held on February 11th, 2012. Our “New York, New York” Installation Ball Silent Auction has a goal to raise Baht two million to support 150 disadvantaged, motivating and hard-working AMCHAM’s Thai university scholarship students. This year, we will give consideration to students in flooded-affected areas. We need your help to source or provide prizes. Please let us know if your organization can donate an airline ticket, hotel stay, piece of art or another item for the auction.

Your donation will be recognized in the Installation Ball Program and AMCHAM’s T-AB Magazine (March Edition).

To donate, please complete our 2012 Silent Auction Donation Form and fax it to 0-2251-1605 or contact Kate at kate@amchamthailand.com

AMCHAM COMPANIES REINFORCE COMMITMENT TO THAILAND

AMCHAM extends our heartfelt sympathies to those in Bangkok and the surrounding area who are affected by the on-going severe and prolonged flood. Although AMCHAM companies are impacted by the unprecedented flooding in central Thailand, they remain optimistic for the future.

Some companies have had their plants flooded forcing them to cease operations temporarily and there are supply chain disruptions for several industries which is providing stress on their operations. The service sector has also been impacted with increased costs and disruptions including absent employees who are unable to come to work.

The first concern of our member companies is the safety of their employees, and protection of property and operations. Many companies have been reaching out with cash and in kind donations, employee assistance, and coordination of temporary housing and humanitarian aid. AMCHAM companies, often working with the U.S. Embassy, remain committed to providing full cooperation and assistance for the quick recovery of livelihood and their operations in Thailand.

We appreciate the programs and initiatives announced by the Thai government in restoring normal operations, particularly the soft loan and financial assistance for the SME sector. We have offered our assistance in the recovery and restoration period to follow.

While efforts will be continuing to protect our employees and to recover and to rebuild, AMCHAM companies remain committed to investments in Thailand. We are heartened to see the renewed commitment by the Thai government with improvements in infrastructure including highways and the management of water resources. As well, increasing competitiveness in the areas of education, customs, industrial, and tax policy have been positive indicators attracting further investment by American companies to Thailand.

STRATEGY TARGETING ORGANIZED PIRACY (STOP!)

Intellectual property rights (IPR) encourage the innovation and creativity that is fundamental to sustained economic growth. Unfortunately, the growing global trade in pirated and counterfeit goods threatens innovation, workers' livelihoods, health, and safety. Fake products - such as CDs, DVDs, software, electronic equipment, clothing, pharmaceutical products, and auto parts - account for an estimated 5 to 7 percent of global trade. This trade costs legitimate rights holders around the world billions of dollars annually.

The Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy (STOP!) is a comprehensive program to stop trade in pirated and counterfeit goods. www.StopFakes.gov provides information about obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights.
