Eric G. John was sworn in as the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand in 2007. He was previously the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia from 2005 to 2007. In that capacity, he coordinated policy in Washington with regard to the eleven nations in the region, as well as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). He was the lead negotiator of the 2006 U.S.-ASEAN Enhanced Partnership, the chief vehicle for improving political, economic and cultural relations between the United States and the region.
Ambassador John has served extensively throughout East Asia and is one of the State Department’s leading experts on Korean affairs, having served thirteen years in Seoul, Busan, and Washington – working on relations with the Korean Peninsula. He lived in South Korea for nine years and made several trips to North Korea. Ambassador John was a key participant in the Four Party Talks in 1997- 1998, the first attempt in over forty years to negotiate a permanent peace settlement on the Korean Peninsula. His most recent assignment in Seoul was as the Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy.
Ambassador John also served in Ho Chi Minh City as the Deputy Consul General and in Bangkok from 1989 to 1992. He joined the Foreign Service in 1983, shortly after he graduated from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. He has a Master’s Degree from the National War College. Ambassador John speaks Korean and Vietnamese.
Joseph C. Geagea (Joe) is currently Chevron’s Managing Director responsible for Exploration and Production activities in Thailand, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, and China.
Joe has been with Chevron for 28 years. He has lived and worked in California, Connecticut, Texas, Spain, the UK and the UAE. Prior to his move to Thailand, he was the Chevron Upstream Vice President responsible for Human Resources, Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, Health Environment and Safety, Policy Government and Public Affairs and a center of Excellence related to Production Operations and Reservoir Management.
Earlier in his career, Joe worked in Chevron downstream operations, most recently as the President of Africa, the Middle East and Pakistan based in Dubai and responsible for Chevron marketing and lubricants operations in 14 countries. During his tenure in Dubai, Joe was active in the American Business Council.
David B. Carden is the Managing Director of FedEx Thailand & Indochina. David is responsible for FedEx operations in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. With a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton, David has worked in a variety of assignments at FedEx for more than 22 years.
David has been a Managing Director with FedEx since 1995 and has served in several Director assignments in Planning, Engineering and Operations. David has worked in various Managing Director positions in New York, Seattle, Los Angeles and most recently in Seoul, Korea. David was Managing Director in Korea for four years prior to starting his assignment here in Bangkok in August of 2006.
Peter Eliot has spent 24 years with Citibank in a number of senior management positions in the international division, most recently in Indonesia, the Philippines and Singapore. Peter was appointed Country Officer for Thailand in February 2008. Prior to his assignment to Thailand, Peter was Country Officer for Indonesia.
In Indonesia, Peter was the Chairman of the Foreign Bank Association of Indonesia, a member of the Fulbright Indonesia Board of Trustees and a member of AmCham Indonesia. In addition, Peter lectured at the University of Indonesia, was active in Citi’s numerous CSR programs and is a recipient of the State Department’s 2007 ACE Award.
Born in Russia, Peter holds his MA in economics from Johns Hopkins University and a BA from The Colorado College. In addition, he studied Arabic in the early 1980s at the American University of Cairo and University of Yarmouk in Jordan.
Joe was appointed to the position of United Airlines’ General Manager for Thailand in August 2008. Previously he was assigned as General Manager to Korea and Vietnam.
Joe has worked for United for 38 years. During his tenure, he has worked at United’s world headquarters in Chicago as well as other locations throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia in a variety of disciplines. His primary focus has been sales, marketing, customer service and operations. His responsibilities also include government affairs and airline alliances.
Joe served on the AmCham Board of Governors in both Korea and Vietnam. In addition, he has been active in community service and industry/government relations by serving as Representative, U.S./Korea Business Council; Secretary, Korea Executive Council United Service Organization (USO); Chairman, Korea Board of Airline Representatives; Member, Am-Cham Vietnam Tourism Committee; and Chairman, Vietnam Business Forum – Tourism Working Group.
Currently he is the AMCHAM Board Liaison to the Travel & Tourism and Security Committees.
David Nardone is the President & CEO of Hemaraj Land And Development Public Co., Ltd. Hemaraj, with assets of U.S.$500 million, is a world-class developer of industrial estates, utilities and property customer solutions. Hemaraj’s six industrial estates total 13,000 acres and include 425 distinct customers and 625 contracts with U.S.$18 billion of investment. The 145 automotive customers include Ford and General Motors.
A returning 17-year resident of Thailand with Hemaraj, David previously held senior financial management positions for over 14 years in the computer industry while residing in the U.S., Thailand and Hong Kong. He completed a BS in Finance and Entrepreneurship and an MBA from Northeastern University.
David contributes to various chambers and economic forums and has written articles on automotive manufacturing and foreign investment. He served as AMCHAM Governor from 2001 to 2004, with involvement in the Automotive Council and Joint Chamber committees.
Robert M. Cooper (Mike) is Chairman and Managing Director of Esso (Thailand) Public Company Limited and ExxonMobil Limited. Mike joined ExxonMobil after receiving his BA (Hon.) from the University of Northumbria, Newcastle, U.K. Mike is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (U.K.). Mike has worked for affiliates of Exxon Mobil Corporation in a number of managerial positions around the world. He was the Investor Relations Manager of Exxon Mobil Corporation in Dallas before his most recent move to Bangkok in August 2009. He serves on the Petroleum Institute of Thailand Council of Trustees and on the Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development.
Charles J. Kathrein (Chuck) is the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Mustang Technologies, a privately owned, Thailand Board of Investment promoted technology company that focuses on providing outsourced software services. An offshore software outsourcing pioneer in Thailand, Chuck was the first tenant of Software Park Thailand, where his company had been located from 1999 until 2006. He has over 25 years experience working in Asia and more than forty years experience in the Information Technology sector.
Chuck is a retired United States Marine Corps Mustang Major and Vietnam War veteran, a former college professor, a former IT consultant and has held senior executive positions with a major Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) and Computerized Maintenance Management (CMMS) solutions provider and a leading enterprise application tool provider in the Asia Pacific Region. Chuck is an Adjunct Associate Professor, University of Maryland University College Asian Division, a guest lecturer for the Institute of Systems Science of the National University of Singapore and is a frequent presenter at Asian Business Forum Conferences.
Chuck holds a Master of Science in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Roosevelt University and a Certified Public Accountant Certificate from the University of Illinois. He is a member of the Project Management Institute, Thai Institute of Directors and International Who’s Who of Professionals.
Peter Fleet serves as President of Ford ASEAN. He is based at Ford’s ASEAN headquarters in Bangkok. Fleet manages and grows the integrated operations across Ford’s ASEAN markets - including Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. This includes leveraging ASEAN regional assets and resources and overseeing the successful implementation of product programs and efficiencies of Ford’s manufacturing operations.
Previously, Peter Fleet was the Regional Director, European Sales Operations for Ford of Europe. He was responsible for the Ford national sales operations in Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Greece and the developing markets within the Ford EDM organization. Prior to this position, Peter Fleet was the European Commercial Vehicle Director for Marketing, Sales and Service from March 2004. During this period, Ford CV sales increased by more than a quarter, over 150 new CV Specialist Dealers were appointed and the New Ford Transit was acclaimed as International Van of the Year 2007. Peter Fleet joined Ford Motor Company in 1989 as a graduate trainee in Ford of Britain.
Jorge Garduno is the General Manager of Coca-Cola (Thailand) Ltd. Jorge has more than 17 years of experience with the Coca- Cola System in Latin America and Asia. A Mexican national, he joined The Coca- Cola Company in 1992 in Mexico and then held positions of increasing responsibility in key areas of the business including Marketing, Commercial Operations and Planning. In 2002, he was appointed Commercial Strategy Director for the Company’s Mexico Division, followed by an appointment in 2006 as General Manager for Coca-Cola Colombia, based in Bogota. In 2007, Jorge was appointed General Manager of Coca-Cola (Thailand) Ltd.
Jorge holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Management from the Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. He also holds an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin, U.S.A.
Bruce Hoppe is Vice President of Asia Operations for Emerson. He is responsible for their compressor manufacturing plants in Rayong, Thailand; Suzhou and Shenyang, China; and support for two plants in India. In 2001, Bruce came to Thailand as Managing Director of the Emerson operation in the Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate in Rayong. Bruce’s office is now in Bangkok.
Previously, Bruce was President of Numatics Actuator in Tennessee, which is an SME. Bruce also worked for General Motors in Michigan and New York. Bruce has a MBA from Michigan State University and a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University. Bruce has been a member of Rotary in Thailand since 2001, led United Way campaigns in the U.S. and was a board member of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He is a registered Professional Engineer and holds a U.S. private pilot license.
Pornlert Lattanan joined GE in June 2002 as General Manager for Business Development and was appointed to his current post, President & National Executive, Thailand & Laos PDR, in June 2003.
Prior to GE, he held the top management position at the oldest local English newspaper and enjoyed a long career in the financial sector, which included an 11 year assignment for a Thai bank in England and Germany. He has previously served as a member of the Board of the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Association of Securities Companies of Thailand, the Sub-Committee for Financial Business of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of Financial Management Group of the Thai Management Association (TMA), AMCHAM Governor (2004-2007) and AMCHAM Vice President (2006).
He is currently a Fellow Member of the Thai Institute of Directors and an Executive Committee Member of the Columbia Alumni Club of Thailand.
He earned his BS in Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, his MBA in Finance and Marketing from Columbia and attended an executive program at Harvard Business School. Recently, he completed a certificate program at King Prachadhipok Institute.
David Lyman received his preliminary education all over the world – in the U.S.A., Korea, Japan, Thailand, India and Switzerland. He graduated from Duke University (B.S.E.E.) in North Carolina in 1958 and the University of California Hastings College of the Law (J.D.) in San Francisco, California in 1965. He joined Tilleke & Gibbins, Thailand’s oldest law firm, in 1967 after a career in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, became a senior partner in 1984 and is currently the law firm’s Chairman and Chief Values Officer.
David has not only distinguished himself in the practice of law, but has also become one of Thailand’s best-known American residents through his activities and services to the Thai government and to the Thai and foreign business and social communities. These include many years of involvement in various capacities and in many areas including: AMCHAM, Governor (1974-2001), President (1975, 1986); Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand Working Group, Chairman (1987-1990); the Asia- Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce, Vice Chairman Taxation (1975-1977), Americans Abroad (1985-1989), Environment (1992-1993) and Director (1975, 1986); Founder Board Member, AMCHAM Thailand Charitable Foundation (2004- present); AMCHAM 50th Anniversary Committee Member (2005-2007); Member of Anti-Corruption Commission, ICC Paris (1996-present); ICC Thailand National Chapter, Founder Board Member (1999-present); Member of World Economic Forum (1988-2006); and Member of Advisory Council of International Crisis Group (2003-present).
Vorapong Vorasuntharosoth, Government Affairs Leader for South East Asia/Australia/New Zealand Region, has been with Dow for more than 24 years. Vorapong, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand and a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, joined Dow in 1984 as a production engineer at the company’s Phrapradaeng polystyrene plant in Bangkok.
He has held numerous positions in Manufacturing and Engineering in Thailand, Australia and Korea and served as Map Ta Phut Site Engineering Manager and Dow’s Asia Pacific Engineering Leader. In 2000, Vorapong was named Public Affairs Leader for Dow in Thailand, assumed regional responsibilities in 2005 and was appointed to his current role in 2007.
Vorapong is a member of the Thailand Institute of Chemical Engineers, represents Dow at the Petroleum Institute of Thailand’s Refining and Petrochemical Industries Standing Committee and is a Director of the Petrochemical Club of the Federation of Thai Industries. Vorapong has been serving as Thailand Country Coordinator for the International Coastal Cleanup program since 2003.
Kenneth White is the Managing Director of Pacific Siam Strategic Consulting Co. Ltd., a Bangkok based firm providing corporate advisory services to domestic and international companies. He is also Director of Finansa PCL, a regional financial services company specializing in private equity management, corporate finance advisory services, wealth management services and pension fund management.
Ken worked for 23 years in senior overseas management positions with the Chase Manhattan Bank, including General Manager of Chase’s activities in Thailand and Indochina. Ken is an independent director of Minor International PCL, Goodyear (Thailand) PCL and Loxbit PCL. He has served on the Board of the Thai Institute of Directors, an independent association that promotes the implementation of international standards for corporate governance. Ken has been active in AMCHAM for over 20 years.
